Current Volunteer Opportunities

Set Up/Operations

  • Southern Orange County (632 Laurel Hill Road, Chapel Hill)

    • Monday – Friday from 9:15 am – 10:45 am

  • Northern Orange County (113 West Hill Ave. South, Hillsborough)

    • Monday and Thursdays from 9:00-10:45AM

  • Receive and sort meals + meal accompaniments by route.

  • Review personalized recipient requests and meal counts by route.

  • Distribute meals to volunteer delivery drivers.

Meal Delivery Drivers

  • Southern Orange County (632 Laurel Hill Road, Chapel Hill)

    • Drivers (at least 18 years old) needed Monday – Friday from 10:30 am to 12:15 pm

  • Northern Orange County (113 West Hill Ave. South, Hillsborough)

    • Drivers (at least 18 years old) needed Mondays and Thursdays from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm

  • Pick up meals from MOW office.

  • Deliver meals to recipients using your own vehicle.

  • Initiate contact and conversation with recipients for friendly check-in.

  • Return binder, delivery bags, and leftover meals to MOW office.

Substitute Delivery Drivers

  • Deliver meals as needed when regular delivery drivers are not available.

  • Please do not sign up unless you have delivered for our program in the past. Training is required.

Bakers

  • Whip up a batch of your favorite recipe at home. Sugar-free desserts are needed as well.

  • Individually wrap each dessert.

  • Drop off the desserts to our office. Chapel Hill Office (9AM-12PM M-F). Hillsborough (9AM-12:30PM M or TH). To be used same day, desserts must be delivered by 9:45AM. If delivered after that time, desserts will be distributed the following day. For more detailed information click baking instructions below.

Shelf-Stable Food and Supply Bags

  • Collect items and assemble Shelf-Stable Food and Supply Bags.

  • Completed bags and supplies can be delivered to the MOWOCNC office In southern Orange County (632 Laurel Hill Road, Chapel Hill) between 9am-1pm M-F. 

Friend-to-Friend Volunteer Phone Connection

  • Speak by telephone with a set group of older adults to help reduce social isolation and loneliness by creating meaningful connections.

  • Commit at least 4 hours per month for at least 6 months.

  • Serve as an information relay, between recipient and MOWOCNC office and vice versa.

Pet Care Program

  • Help develop and implement a pet care program for recipients.

  • Outreach to partners, vendors and sponsors.

  • Pick-up, sort, label products for distribution.

  • Deliver pet food and/or supplies monthly.

  • Plan and implement annual community event to raise funds and support program.

Administrative Office Help

  • Write/sign Holiday and Birthday Cards for volunteers/recipients

  • Update Spreadsheets

  • Sort Shelf-Stable Food Sort

  • Research Grants

Professional Services

  • We have an on-going need for volunteers with specific skills and expertise such as:

    • Accounting

    • Database Development

    • Fundraising - Event Planning 
    • Grant Research

    • Human Resources

    • Law

    • Marketing

    • Strategic Planning

    • Web Development

Leadership

Ambassadors

  • Promote MOWOCNC at local Farmer’s Markets/Community Outreach Programs, your neighborhood association, local place of worship, or in other community venues. 

Group Volunteer Opportunities

  • Deliver meals with your office, youth group, and/or social group to our clients as a one-time event coupled with our regular drivers.

  • Get trained and become part of a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or quarterly rotation.
